Concrete Experience

Today, we had international visitors at the university museum, Japanese professors Dr. Reiko Ogawa from Chiba University and Dr. Michiyo Yoneno-Reyes from the University of Shizuoka. Unfortunately, I was not present during their visit because I had to attend a scheduled thesis interview in Barangay Calumpang, General Santos City. Before my absence, I informed my supervisor about my situation and obtained permission to miss that day’s activity.

On the following day, even though I missed the visit, I made sure to continue performing my duties responsibly. Sir Halim, one of the museum staff , told us on the other day that he was absent for one day, and he assigned us to take charge of the museum in his absence.

Reflective Observation

The experience of taking charge of the museum without our supervisor gave me and my fellow interns a sense of independence and trust. We worked together to ensure that the museum remained orderly and well-maintained during his absence. Although I regretted not being present during the visit of our Japanese guests, I realized that managing my academic responsibilities are equally important, as long as you don’t forget and ignore the responsibilities you have both academically and as an intern  of  the university museum, and also it was my first time to be not around on the day that we have some special visitors.

Abstract Conceptualization

From this experience, I learned the importance of accountability, communication, and teamwork. Informing my supervisor in advance about my absence showed professionalism and respect for proper procedures. Moreover, being entrusted with the museum’s operations allowed me to understand how responsibility builds confidence and leadership. Even without direct supervision, it is possible to perform efficiently when everyone contributes and follows what they have learned.

Active Experimentation

Moving forward, I will apply these lessons by improving my time management, balancing academic commitments and internship duties more effectively. I will also strive to be more proactive in communicating with my supervisors and peers to ensure smooth operations, even during unexpected situations. This experience reminded me that being dependable and adaptable are key qualities in both professional and academic settings.
