Concrete Experience

Today was a relatively quiet and non busy day at the museum, with very few visitors coming in. Because of this, we focused more on our internal tasks as interns. We spent most of the morning editing pubmats for the museum’s social media platforms, refining layouts, adjusting colors, and making sure that the designs aligned with the museum’s branding. We also worked on writing and polishing captions to accompany the posts, ensuring the tone stayed educational, approachable, and engaging.

In the afternoon, we continued encoding files and updating digital records that will be used for future exhibitions and documentation. Before the day ended, we had a short conversation with Ma’am Alma regarding our progress. We asked about our remaining hours, and she guided us on completing our 180-hour internship requirement.

Reflective Observation

Because it was a slow day in terms of foot traffic, we noticed how different the work atmosphere feels compared to busier days. Without the usual visitor interactions, we became more aware of the administrative and behind-the-scenes responsibilities that keep the museum running. Editing pubmats and writing captions, although repetitive at times, helped us realize how communication plays a huge role in keeping the museum visible to the public.

Our conversation with Ma’am Alma also made us reflect on our internship journey so far. Time has passed quickly, and we are nearing the completion of our 180 hours. Her reminders made us think about our consistency, growth, and the professional habits we are developing—especially the importance of meeting deadlines and managing tasks independently.

Abstract Conceptualization

From today’s experience, we better understood that museum work is not limited to exhibitions and visitor management. It also involves media work, documentation, and administrative tasks elements that ensure the museum remains organized and active in the academic community. We realized that even quiet days contribute to the museum’s long-term success, as they give staff (and interns like us) the chance to update records, plan content, and work on projects that support the museum’s visibility.

We also recognized that communication with supervisors is essential. Checking our progress and clarifying expectations helps align our work with the museum’s needs and keeps us accountable.

Active Experimentation

Moving forward, we plan to manage our time more effectively, especially on non busy days. We want to improve how we divide our tasks so that we can finish pubmats earlier and focus on learning new skills such as basic documentation techniques, writing more informative captions, or exploring how to assist in curatorial tasks.
